The Contents Of Mydian
Oh yes. Newz.

Things have been quiet in Mydian of late. That doesn't necessarily mean anything: the world could merely be gearing up for another dreadful calamity, and it would serve the bastards right, frankly. Further thought has gone into the villian for Book One: Leviathan, including the final epic battle between good and evil. There's blood, and fire, all the good stuff. Working on a short story for the baddie too.
I recently re-read "Jonathan Strange and Mister Norrell", by Susanna Clarke. A superb book, and one with an interesting take on magic. Magic, in her world, is a lost art, studied only on a theoretical basis by rather stuffy scholars, until two men capable of performing it come along. Much of the magic done by them is based on previous, lost works, in a bizarre principle where they re-write previous spells or borrow bits and pieces from other works. It's quite fascinating, but having only just put it down, it's a real bugger because ideas from it keep appearing in my work, only for me to have to remove them!

New materials are afoot! Brief notes on Aeon, Forge, Spite and Terus have gone up. Also in the works are details on the villian for my first book, Leviathan (he says, laughingly confident). Needless to say they're particularly evil and fully deserving of a hefty slap.

Shiv has received his first contributions to the world of Mydian! Step forward James W. Wright, artist and scholar. James has produced visions of both Catalani and Battan, and with any luck can be persuaded to add more! See his page here (I'll set up a proper contributor link soon)

THIS JUST IN: SHIV FINDS FURTHER MUSE IN VODKA BASED DRINKS! But don't worry, mum. On returning from the usual tuesday night session at the local club, I got into bed and just started scribbling, leading to three new pieces of unrelated fiction: namely Beauty Mask, In Conclusion and Musings of an Agnostic (the third of which is literally just a stream-of-consciousness piece, not fictional as such). Also recently added are images for Glimmer, Cydon and Spite, as well as a new coloured image for both Battan (a rollover image) and the Swordsman!

A certain lax-ness on Shiv's part has led to a lack of creativity recently, partly blamed on a borderline-psychotic woman and her band of cronies, but mainly on laziness. However! Finding his muse in a triple-distilled spirit, Shiv has just scanned in some concept art for the various dragons that inhabit this daft planet and they will be coloured and added soon. More literature is also due for all the dragons, but it was left at home and so it'll have to wait for the Royal Mail to get a grip. 2008, then.

Hell heard to have frozen over as Shiv acquires a book teaching you how to draw characters! Expect lavish, lifelike artworks to grace your eyes soon. In between sessions of World of Warcraft and Bioshock, that is. Shiv also threatened with job interview tomorrow, and may yet be seen to receive a wage. Cue anguished screams and the lamentation of the womenfolk. On a slightly more proactive note, much thought has gone into the elemental dragons, with a short piece about them on its' way, along with a rough explanation of why dragons are so damned important. Check the bestiary soon! Efforts thus far also hampered by a laughably slow internet connection (four meg, my muscular buttocks) and a rather unhelpful man at their help desk who spoke very little english but still managed to talk down to me.

New bestiary content added: Shard, Machinists, Mystics, Machinoids. This week, Shiv has roped a couple of people into doing some actual GOOD artwork for the site! Breath is being held on a part-time basis. Pigs also seen to fly as Shiv not only secures a colour image for Battan, but it's a ROLLOVER image! Go point at him today and marvel at the simplest of Dreamweaver functions!

Terror grips the nation as Shiv's entire household comes down with some unpleasant super-virus called "common influenza", whatever that means. Symptoms include a relatively high-pitched whining noise and a heightened unwillingness to leave the bedroom. Still, the site has been ever-so-slightly jazzed up (Yep, I love templates) with more bestiary content to follow - including Sofia, the Twins and a little Machinist/Mystic lore. I've also had a crack at colouring in one or two of my drawings, just fuzzily filling gaps in Photoshop. A degree of colourblindess means they probably look worse. I just wanted something to do.

Crazed despot Shiv creates new contents page to, quote: "Make the whole thing look a bit less shit". Rumour has it that the whole sorry affair was in fact a Dreamweaver template, because he still doesn't know how to use it. Shiv has been heard to cry out "Come back, all is forgiven" to his estranged (and currently slightly malingering) web designer flatmate.
